New Contract Highs for Cattle![]() Live Cattle (June)June live cattle futures were able to post a new contract high in Friday’s trade, settling just about 50 cents off the intraday high too. With prices back in uncharted territory, finding the next meaningful resistance pocket becomes even more difficult than it otherwise would be. Continued fundamental strength continues to offer support to prices. With that said, futures markets trading at such a large discount to the cash price seems like a bit of a caution flag looking into the back half of the year. Resistance: 215*, 218*
Cutout values were very mixed on Friday afternoon with choice cuts .27 ower to 342.90 and select cuts 11.07 higher to 325.35. Slaughter on Friday was reported at 87k head. The 5-area average price for live steers was reported at 220.99. The CME feeder Cattle Index is at 296.38 with the NBW Real-Time Index showing 297.25 as of this morning.
